hotel expansion, county durham
Chris Padgett and John White managed the project which was carried out whilst they were with Padgett Lavender Associates. The brief was to extend the existing hotel from 17 to 53 bedrooms and provide a 450sqm divisible function room and renovate the original grade II listed house. The development involved close consultation with the County Council, English Heritage, and the local planning authority. Great emphasis was placed on achieving a symmetrical frontage to the grade II listed historic landscape of Hardwick Park. The finished project won awards from the Northumbria Tourist Board. This practice has since obtained planning consent for a new development of 48 bedrooms to the north of the existing hotel; and worked with the client to obtain a grant from DEFRA and managed the repair and refurbishment of the Tuscan Seat which forms part of the 18th century heritage landscape designed by James Paine.
